What is an ibclc?

An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is a healthcare professional with specialized knowledge and expertise in breastfeeding and lactation support. IBCLCs help mothers and babies to establish and maintain a successful breastfeeding relationship by providing evidence-based information, support, and guidance. They are trained to determine and address any issues or challenges that may affect breastfeeding, such as latch problems, low milk supply, and nipple pain. IBCLCs work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and private practice, and may also provide home visits and phone consultations. They have completed extensive education, training, and certification requirements established by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
